Hurricane Preparedness

While it is always a good idea to have a plan for emergencies, being prepared for hurricane season (June 1 to November 30) is especially important. We want to help and provide you with the most current information and resources about pet-friendly shelters as well as tips to plan for any disaster.

Checklist:

☑️ Pet food and treats to last at least 5 days (ziploc bags, manual can opener for canned foods)

☑️ Bottled water to last at least 5 days (not including your personal water supply)

☑️ Paper bowls (disposable to conserve fresh water for cleaning)

☑️ Medications (at least a 2 week supply)

☑️ Copy of health/vaccine records CURRENT RABIES TAG (to be placed inside of protective sleeve to protect against water damage)

☑️ Updated picture of pet

☑️ Microchip. Both dogs and cats should be microchipped. This is the best way for the shelters to identify pets.

☑️ Veterinarian's contact information

☑️ Waste removal bags

☑️ Potty pads

☑️ Litter box (if you become low on litter, shredded newspaper works too)

☑️ Trash bags

☑️ Paper towels

☑️ Household Chlorine Bleach - 9 parts water to 1 part bleach

☑️ Collars and Leashes/ cat carriers (keep extras on you in case one breaks or you come across another pet in need)

☑️ Familiar blanket/toy or bed from home

☑️ Dog tags

☑️ Flashlight for nighttime walks

☑️ Emergency numbers, shelter information
